The breath is a tool

To help you find calm

Hi friends and fam!

I’m back for another meditation, and I hope you’ll join me!

I’ve intentionally made these episodes short - designed to fit into your busy day, not compete with it!

Today’s episode dives briefly into some of the mechanics of the breath - why it matters, and why I begin many of these sessions with deep breathing. My hope is that as you start to build a rhythm with your breath here, you’ll begin to to carry that rhythm outside of this practice, into your daily life. For this is the real practice - the real world.

And in today’s world, something as small as a notification on your phone or an email can trigger the same stress response - fight or flight- that our ancestors relied on to ward off real threats (like bears!) Don’t get me wrong, there are legitimate situations in modern society where our fight or flight response is triggered and we should listen, but our systems do not often differentiate between those and something much smaller. Deep breathing helps us reset. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system—the part of us that knows how to slow down, calm down, and feel safe.

This process certainly is not about perfection, it’s about practice, about developing and then remembering that we have tools to activate - especially when things feel overwhelming or chaotic.

I hope you’ll take five minutes with me to breathe.

In peace and breath!

Maddy
